About the event
What’s not to love? A whole symphony brought to life in a single day, surrounded by fellow musicians, great repertoire, and the buzz of a full orchestra coming together.
This time we’re celebrating the remarkable musical family of Fanny and Felix Mendelssohn. Not only siblings, but both extraordinary composers. In their time, women were rarely encouraged to publish or promote their music, and sadly Fanny Mendelssohn only heard a small number of her works performed before her death. Her brother Felix believed strongly in her talent and helped champion her music.
So on this Symphony in a Day we’ll be bringing that spirit forward by performing Fanny Mendelssohn’s powerful Overture in C Major, alongside Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No.1, written when he was just 15 years old. Youthful energy, brilliant writing, and music that sparkles from start to finish.
